Have you ever wondered how hard it can be to merge two black holes? Well it actually is a lot harder than you think. You would think that because they are immense gravity wells, and consume everything they draw in, that they would snap together like giant magnets.
BUT................... they do not!
On this episode of How Do You KNOW? Dr Daniel Barth will talk about how relatively easy it is to get two black holes in the same region, that merging black holes is possible, but it is the last mile that is the issue. Astronomers refer to this as the Last Parsec Problem. He will go into detail on what it takes to over come this issue and how the black holes merge.
